Presenter: Hello, everybody, and welcome to our daily program '5 Minutes with a Star'. Today in our studio, we are lucky to have Kelly Green, a famous opera singer. Hello, Kelly.

Kelly: Good afternoon. It's a pleasure being here. Thank you so much for inviting me here today.

Presenter: I'd like to give our listeners a few facts about our guest. Kelly Green is a lyric soprano who has appeared internationally in both operas and musicals. Her opera credits include Madeline and the Marriage of Figaro. Her other theatre credits include North American tours of The Sound of Music, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, Westside Story and The Addams Family.

Kelly: Well, I guess you have just listed all of my major roles. I have been exceptionally lucky to get them, considering my age. Not many actresses of my age are offered roles like that.

Presenter: You have recently joined the cast of the iconic musical The Ghost. Can you tell us how it all happened?

Kelly: Well, I moved to London two years ago and was so fortunate to get roles in two world premiere operas almost at once. It took me a lot of auditions to get these roles, but they were important for me as they included acting, singing, and dance calls. They were an amazing experience and I loved every moment of these two performances. The producer of The Ghost noticed me in one of the shows and offered the main role in his musical to me.

Presenter: How would you describe your heroine?

Kelly: In my opinion, she is really a misunderstood woman and is often marked as the villain of this piece. To me, however, she is extraordinary. When you think about her, a woman in the late 1800s, you get stunned at how she worked her way to independence. It is quite inspiring.

Presenter: Many opera singers have performed this role. What is special about your vision of her?

Kelly: This role is already a part of my soul. In fact, the music and artistic staff of the musical have been so collaborative and supportive in helping me really make this character my own. I have added little bits and nuances throughout the piece that I think the audience will really love. But it wouldn't be a good idea to reveal them all just before the first night show. You'll have to come and see it for yourself.

Presenter: You have performed at many venues in the USA. How does it feel to be living and performing in London?

Kelly: I absolutely love being here in London. I have always loved the city, so it was a dream come true when I moved here. The theatre culture and history here are so rich. You know, I have performed in 48 out of 50 US states so far, and we do have some stunning venues in the United States. However, I must say there is something quite special about performing in a venue that has been around since before the US was a country. It is such an honour to sing in a place where so much history has been made.

Presenter: How long will you be performing in London? And what comes next for you after The Ghost?

Kelly: I will be singing the role for about a year on this current contract. I will be headed to New Jersey, the USA for a short trip in the spring for Beethoven's 9th symphony concert with the Bay Atlantic Symphony and then continuing my current journey here. I'm excited to see what the future holds and am so grateful for this next step. Hopefully, I'll get more exciting roles. I love exploring new characters and I feel I get better as an actress with each new role that I get.
