The project I am currently working on is about chess as a popular hobby in Zetland. I have found a pie chart showing the results of a survey conducted among Zetland teenagers on this topic. In this essay, I will analyse the data and provide my opinion on the subject of the project.

According to the pie chart, the most popular response to the question “Why do you play chess?” is “To develop logical thinking” (36%), followed by “To improve problem solving skills” (22%). The least frequently chosen option is “To make new friends”, at 11%.

Comparing the data, it is clear that the percentage of respondents who choose “To become more attentive” (17%) is higher than the percentage of those who opt for “To make new friends” (11%). This may be because concentration is directly trained during every chess game, whereas social contact depends on where and with whom a person plays.

Notably, one problem that a person can face when taking part in sports competitions is excessive stress, especially after losing an important match. A good solution is to practise relaxation techniques with a coach and focus on personal progress rather than only on the final result.

In conclusion, I believe that playing chess is an excellent free time activity because it develops logical thinking, patience and concentration while also providing an enjoyable intellectual challenge.
