Now we are ready to start.
Speaker A: I think nowadays it's very important to learn how to produce a good impression on people. It'll come in handy on many occasions, I believe. I think the main thing about it is to look people in the eye. If you don't do it and avoid other people's eyes, you will look unfriendly, rude or others may think you are not paying attention to what they are saying. So I always look people in the eye or at least focus on their forehead to look friendly.
1. Eye contact is an important aspect of communication. (Speaker A – 1)
Speaker B: I don't know why, but I don't like people who find it difficult to remember people's names. I think a person's name is the most important thing about him or her. When somebody uses a nickname or some general word like "my dear" to address me, I always suspect this person has simply forgotten what my name is. Everybody wants to feel unique and the sound of your name is the best sound in the world for you, isn't it? Otherwise people won't like you.
6. You should never forget what a person is called. (Speaker B – 6)
Speaker C: I've read it in a magazine that if you want a person to like you, you must copy their gestures and maybe even the way they speak. I know quite a lot of people do it subconsciously without even realizing it. However, if you put some effort into it, the result is even better. You may notice the gestures of a person and try to do the same. The secret is that people tend to trust people more if they are like them, similar to them. I think it is useful advice.
2. Imitating a person's behaviour makes them like you. (Speaker C – 2)
Speaker D: Quite often when I switch on the TV or buy a magazine, I come across various pieces of advice on how to make somebody like you. These are pieces of advice from top managers, psychologists and whatnot. Maybe some of this advice is even useful and practical, but I do believe it's horrible to manipulate other people. And if you want somebody to like you and do something to do it, it's already manipulating people and it is very bad.
7. It's dishonest to use techniques to make someone like you. (Speaker D – 7)
Speaker E: I used to wonder why people find dancers, actors and singers so attractive. I thought it is maybe because they are celebrities or something. Later I found out that when we are looking at an unknown person and start making our impression of them, we pay very much attention to their posture. A good posture is associated with a high self-esteem and an optimistic view on life in general. I think I need to pay attention to my posture now for people to like me.
5. Watch your back if you want to make a good impression. (Speaker E – 5)
Speaker F: Why do you think so many people offer you a cup of tea or coffee when you come to their place? Well, maybe because they want to treat you to something tasty or maybe because it's considered to be polite to do so. But I guess there is one more reason for it. In fact, people begin to treat you better and form a higher opinion of you if their hands are warm. When you are holding a cup of hot tea, your hands get warm and that's it, you like the host.
4. A hot drink helps to establish contact in many ways. (Speaker F – 4)
