In 1752, Benjamin Franklin conducted a famous experiment that improved understanding of electricity. Today, electrical systems provide energy for homes, hospitals and industries around the world. Modern devices can use only a small amount of energy compared with older technologies. Scientists continue to search for safer and more efficient ways to produce electricity. Their work is important because reliable energy sources are necessary for future development.
