Task 1. You are going to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2 minutes for reading aloud.
The study of earthquakes helps scientists understand the internal structure of the Earth and reduce the risks caused by natural disasters. Earthquakes occur when enormous amounts of energy are released beneath the planet’s surface. Researchers use highly sensitive instruments to detect underground movements and analyse seismic activity. One of the most powerful recorded earthquakes happened in 1960 and affected large areas of the world. Although scientists cannot completely prevent earthquakes, their investigations help create safer buildings and improve emergency systems. This research is extremely important for protecting human lives.
