As for what natural phenomena I would call the most dangerous, I believe earthquakes and tsunamis are the most dangerous because they happen suddenly and cause massive destruction. As for whether we will ever learn to protect ourselves from them, I hope we will, but it may take many years of research.

In your email you say that you spent the whole evening watching a basketball game yesterday. What teams were playing? What was the final score? Did the game go into overtime?
